About the Conference

The Department of Political Economy of the University of Cologne organized in cooperation with the junior enterprise connosco the 1st Cologne Latin America Symposium (CLAS). The conference took place from October 16 until October 18, 2005 in the premises of the University of Cologne (Senatssitzungssaal), Cologne, Germany.

It was the aim of the Cologne Latin America Symposium 2005 to take stock of economic development and economic and social policies implemented in Latin America during the last decade and to identify the key areas of public policy that require the attention of researchers policy makers and business decision makers. Another aim of the symposium was to foster research activity in Germany and Europe on topics related to the economic and social development of Latin America, to strengthen the existing networks between European and Latin American researchers and to promote the creation of new networks between universities, companies and other multinational actors.

The keynote speech was delivered by Gerardo della Paolera of the American University of Paris.
